okay...inquiring minds want to know...why, when I see photos of the DHS softball team are they wearing facemasks when they are not the catcher? fashion statement? overkill? belts and suspenders theory?
Here's the deal. The 'Wyld Mud Run' is being held on June 30th at 11:00 in Torrington, CT at John A. Minetto State Park. It is a 5K course that includes natural terrain, water obstacles, climbing hills and walls, crawling, tire run, slippery climb and a labrynth. No jello but I guess you can't have everything. Registration is at www.nwctsports.org.
Just looked at their webiste - sounds like fun - want to form a team? We could laugh through the entire 5K - sounds a lot easier than a Tough Mudder - maybe like a Tpugh Mudder with training wheels. Now, I'm serious here....what do ya think?
I was just out in Darien Apr 8th - 17th 2012 when my mother passed away.. I couldn't believe how much the area had changed... The traffic is crazy.. Back in Wisconsin now ..
Isn't Ed absolutely amazing! He has already hiked 2 of the 3 northern sections of the AT in previous years. This year he is doing the third and last leg. He started from Springer Mt. in Georgia (3-21-12) and is hiking thru' to Harper's Ferry WV. He is expecting to finish sometime late in June. If/When I hear more about Ed, I'll post it. Are you thinking of doing this too?
Yes, it's on my list. But, a slightly crazier idea and one that is higher on my list is to get a team together to enter a tough mudder event. What do ya think?
I would love to form a team! The only prob is...I don't think that I could do the distance...even walking. The heart is willing but the legs are party poopers. I checked the website but didn't see much. How did you know is was an easy trail? Also who else were you thinking of being on the team? Mardie Porter? Skins? John vdH?...Eddie?.....
I love team sports altho' I'm more of a Stuff Mucker than a Tough Mudder.....Unless of course it involves mud wrestling. Now that would be fun. Ooo, Ooo, better.....jello wrestling. You could make up some of that glop that you used to feed us before softball games and we could make it into jello. I'm in!
So I'm doing an annual training with staff on sexual harassment and, let's face it, how many times can you watch that DVD? So I look at the class of '69 blog to catch up on news - and Ed Tyler is my new hero. Does anyone know how far he's walking and why he decided to do this? I've completed two half marathons in the past year but will now have to set my sights higher!
'Just got an update from Lauren on Eddie's current position on the Appalachian Trail. Seems he just crossed over I-40 and that would put him just noth of the Great Smoky Mountains and northeast of Knoxville, TN. How cool is that?
'Wonder if Cutter's works on bears?
I asked Keith to send me a copy of "Green", the novel Keith is finishing. It is a terrific story and Keith has a wonderful ear for dialog. I printed it out in 50 page installments and was a real treat to read over a number of days. Good job, Keith!
Actually, there are some summer plans percolating. Both Tina Rollins McKay and Dennis Sullivan are planning trips to CT for a long weekend at the end of July. Both will be coming in for the last weekend of July 27th thru' 29th. To celebrate, we've planned a lunch at the 'Goose' in Darien on Friday, July 27th and a dinner and wine tasting at Hopkins Inn on Lake Warmaug, New Preston, for Saturday night, the 28th. The lake is absolutely beautiful in the summer and Hopkins Inn sits way above the lake looking down on boaters and birds alike. If you are interested in either lunch or dinner, please let me know and I will include you in the dining reservation accordingly. Please know that this is an informal gathering and a 'pay as you go' for either event and for accommodations.*
*Accommodations are available but limited at both the Hopkins Inn and at the Birches Inn on Lake Waurmaug. Luxury accommodations are available at the Mayflower Inn and Spa in Washington, CT.
The Birches Inn: 860-868-1735, 800-525-3466
The Hopkins Inn: 860-868-7295, 860-868-9248
The Mayflower Inn: 860-868-9466
