Someone mentioned getting a softball game together this summer, maybe in June. I can check on a field. Everyone can bring their own beer (a keg is too heavy for our backs). The only rule will be no one can take it too seriously! Maybe bring the kids along.

Just got a call from Terris Devereaux.  He's in Charlotte NC.  We'll connect more by direct email. He thinks I changed his life somehow. Hmmmm. Sounds interesting... GW

August appears to be a better month for a softball game. A number of classmates are coming to Darien in August. Also DHS '70 is having a reunion (www.darienhigh70.com) Aug 6-8 so we may be able to hook up with them.

Great Idea, John!  From what I'm hearing, August is a good time for folks....the first weekend in August ( 6 - 8) in particular.  As you mentioned the DHS class of 1970 will be in town then also so we can catch up with them as well.  Let's do it!  Softball and picnic the first weekend in August.

From Craigbo " Can anyone catch the midnight train, my black bad boy friz?

Hi Janet,

I Can't believe it, a mini reunion this August.  Lunch at Pellicci's, softball at DHS and Benny's afterwards.  Can't wait.  The one thing that we're missing is Fearless Leadership!........team captains.  I'm nominating Josie and Lope.  Whadda you think?

Folks from out of town may stay at the Doubletree Hotel in Norwalk.  They will give us a rate of $103.77 (with tax and AAA) for a double room with 2 queen beds

Or, if you want to lie, you can say you're with the class of 1970 and get a room for $79.00 plus tax!!

O Captain! our Captain!  who will come forth this day,

To lead the Class of ’69, on the field of play?

The game is near, the challenge clear, the Class of ’70 beckons.

Who of us will guide our team and teach these folks a lesson?

Oh Captain! Our Captain! rise up and hear the call.

To gather bats and worn out mitts and rally ‘round the ball,

To recall games of long ago, and plays made in the clutch,

When running 'round the bases did not hurt so much.

Oh Captain! Our Captain! the August sun awaits.

Help us round the bases, spur us to home plate.

And when the game is over, ‘midst winners’ cheers and losers’ groans,

Your gentle hand, your calming voice, will sooth our aching bones.

This describes only two people: Skins or Bev!
Reply
Patti Craig on June 22, 2010 3:10 PM
How about Skins and Bev?  'Works for me.  We definitely want Bev on our team.  She catches.  She hits and she throws.  She's that good and she is still playing.

Skins is a great short stop.  She is quick and she throws a mean side arm.  We'll need someone good at first base to catch her.
Skins are you still playing?

PS  Both can talk trash!

Congratualations, boys.  I understand that you've signed Bonfoey for August 7th and maybe "Skins" or "Bones' or somebody like that also....Good Work!

Now go get me Lynch, Tyler, Gatto and Bischof.

And get after that kid, Lopriore out of Jacksonville.  He's been playing tootsie with us long enough.  I want him!

Any other scouting buzz from vanden Heuvel?

Yea, pitch Nina Millett (Miller) high and tight. She'll swing at anything inside.

'Ok Ok' we've got a buzz now on one heavy hitter.  We need a pitcher with good inside control.

Get me Lynch and/or Bischof.

And we need a first base who can catch a fast low side arm.

Make it so!

What else is out there?

Will Paul Hepp do? I hear he may show up.

I'm getting the same buzz on Mr. Hepp.  Excellent! Excelllent!  There is our big first base man to catch a fast hard side arm.  How're we doing for pitchers?

In case any of you were worried that that Wooly Bully, Lorraine B. might show up at the game and utter unkind words, please rest assured that Carol Ann Augustus Sommers has us covered.  She has cast her famous safety spell, 'Pax Plurus, Exodus Lorrainus.

Heven help the 70's.

The Darien EMTs have been notified of this game.  We will have an ambulance standing by the tennis courts... oxygen, nitroglycerin, and paddles... this is covering the class of '70.  We know the class of '69 will be fine.

Greeting everyone,

August 7th is just around the corner now. 'Not long before we're all together again to play, visit, catch up etc...  We can't wait to see you.  Wasn't last year the best!

Next Sat. (July 24th), Steve and I are going down to Stamford to give Pellicci's last minute instructions.  Therefore, please let us know this week, if you're coming to Pellicci's at noon for lunch before the game.  Even though this luncheon is a pay as you go, (we're not collecting $ in advance), we will be a large group and the restaurant needs to know how many to expect.  So if you'd kindly let us know this week if you're planning to come to Pellicci's, we'll firm up lunch plans.  Thanks.  Patti and Steve

Let me know how their thin crust and pepperoni tastes. And make sure I can get anchovies!
Reply
Patti Craig on July 16, 2010 12:14 PM
To: T. T.

Their crust is nice and light and crispy. The pepperoni is sweet and thinly sliced.  And you can have all the anchovies you want!
They even make a retro pizza which is the same receipe that they used for their first pizza back in the 40's  I have to go wipe the drool off my face now.

Had lunch at Pellicci's yesterday with Steve and Patti. Pizzas are out of this world! I had a little trouble finding the place- the first time my GPS told me to pull over and ask for directions! Great to see the Craigs and super choice for a get-together.

It was great to see you too, John.  I agree the food at Pellicci's is really good and they are wonderful to do business with.  They are going to give us a set-up in the room with the waterfall and we can linger there as long as we like.  So if it showers or is really hot, we can hang out there if we want to.
I think the easiest way to get to Pellicci's is to come in from north of town, down from the Merritt on Long Ridge Rd.  So if you are coming in from north of town..................

Get on the Merritt in whatever way is easiest for you.
Leave the parkway at exit #34, Long Ridge Rd. Stay in the middle lane.
At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Long Ridge Rd. rt. # 104.
Stay in the right lane.  Go thru' five lights.
At the sixth light (1 mile from the Merritt) turn right and then an immediate left onto Stillwater Ave.
Stay on Stillwater Ave., past Eden Farms, past the Municipal Golf Course (about 2 miles)
After the golf course, the road curves sharply to the left.
Following the curve, turn right at the light to stay on Stillwater.
In about 1/4 mile, look for the baseball/soccer fields on the left and bear left to follow Stillwater Ave. around the fields.
Pellicci's is about 1/2 mile on your right.
Parking is just beyond the restaurant on the right.

I have just gotten sad news from Nina Miller that Danny Keith (70) died last week.  No details but perhaps none are needed.  'Sure will miss his jokes and his smile.  I'm sure you Royle school folks will be especially saddened.
